PRELUDE                                                                                                                     Chris Pierce

Welcome home, people of God.

We have come to find refuge in the shelter of God’s care.

Come and sit down.  There is room for everyone in God’s house.

We have come to be nourished by God’s word.

We are God’s own people, and are precious in God’s sight.

We have come to give thanks for God’s faithful love.

We gather today O God, our guide and guardian, remembering those who have nurtured us, protected us, and helped us grow.  We give you thanks for homes that accept us and affirmed us as your precious children.  In the shelter of your healing love, fortify us as living stones, and build us into a spiritual home where all are welcome.  In the name of Christ, our foundation and cornerstone, we pray.  Amen.

PSALM READING                                                                                          Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16

In you, O Lord, I seek refuge;

do not let me ever be put to shame;

in your righteousness deliver me.

Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily.

Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.

You are indeed my rock and my fortress;

for your name’s sake lead me and guide me,

take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge.

Into your hand I commit my spirit;

you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

My times are in your hand;

deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.

Let your face shine upon your servant;

save me in your steadfast love.

GOSPEL READING                                                                                                    John 14:1-14

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.

HYMN                                              Nothing Can Trouble                                           TFWS 2054

Nothing can trouble, nothing can frighten.

Those who seek God shall never go wanting.

Nothing can trouble, nothing can frighten

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE  { Lord, in your mercy….Hear our prayers}

  1. For our churches and the ongoing ministries here, especially Food Pantry and the volunteers. May God grant us wisdom, discernment, and grace at this time. 2. Prayers for our shut ins and homebound individuals. 3. For the medical professionals including Antoinette Romito & Kelly Transue, and first responders in our community. 4. For the leaders of the nation and the church and their discernment. 4. Richard Harty for full recovery from COVID-19 and for people, who are sick and lost their loved ones. 6. Please, add your prayers …

For our mothers, who have given us life and love,

that we may show them reverence and love,

we pray to the Lord…

For mothers who have lost a child through death,

That their faith may give them hope,

And their family and friends support and console them,

We pray to the Lord…

For women, though without children of their own,

Who like mothers have nurtured and cared for us,

We pray to the Lord…

For mothers, who have been unable to be a source of strength,

Who have not responded to their children

And have not sustained their families,

We pray to the Lord…

Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children,

So you watch over your Church.

Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers.

Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.

Grant that we, their sons and daughters,

May honor them always with a spirit of profound respect.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

OUR LORD’S PRAYER ~ Together, we pray…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

OFFERING OF OURSELVES & OUR GIFTS                                           2 Corinthians 9:6 – 11

Loving God, you have made us your people, so that we may speak of your wonderful acts.  With gratitude for all we have received, we have come to offer our gifts to you.  Use these gifts, and use our very lives, to make this world a home where all are sheltered, nourished and cherished. Through these gifts, proclaim your word of grace.  In your love and grace, we pray.  Amen.

HYMN                                                   Be Still, My Soul                                            UMH 534

  1. 1 Be still my soul the Lord is on thy side
    Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
    Leave to thy God to order and provide
    In every change He faithful will remain
    Be still my soul thy best, thy heavenly friend
    Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end

  1. 2 Be still my soul when dearest friends depart
    And all is darkened in the vale of tears
    Then shalt thou better know His love His heart
    Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears
    Be still my soul the waves and winds shall know
    His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below

  1. 3 Be still my soul the hour is hastening on
    When we shall be forever with the Lord
    When disappointment grief and fear are gone
    Sorrow forgot love’s purest joys restored
    Be still my soul when change and tears are past
    All safe and blessed we shall meet at last

Brothers and sisters, God has loved us, strengthened us and blessed us.  Now God is sending us forth to strengthen others and bless the world, and love with compassion and grace.  Everywhere you go and whomever you contact, you may share God’s amazing grace and love and become a blessing to others. Amen.
